HELP! Membership Prepayment
November 09, 2011, 10:17:37 am
I need some major advice for a client.  They want to be able to allow users to sign up for different types of membership for 1, 2, or 3 years.  I set this up as multiple membership types one for each year, something like this:
Regular Membership - 1 year  set to Current Dues Contribution Type
Regular Membership - 2 years  set to Prepayment Contribution Type
Regular Membership - 3 years  set to Prepayment Contribution Type

The client wants the contribution for the prepaid membership types to be split up into two contributions, so that the money for the current year can go into the current dues GL Code, and the rest can go into the prepaid GL Code.

We have the client on Drupal 6 with CiviCRM 3.7.  We have a few ideas about some customization we can do like with a custom Civi Rules module and some rules when the member joins, but we have a major concern about an upgrade path.  We don't want them to lose whatever custom work we do when they upgrade to drupal 7 and civi 4.

I am looking for guidance on what improvements are planned for Civi, and if any of this kind of functionality is going to be available?  And how soon?  I've looked into the CiviAccounts functionality and I think it would definitely help this issue, and I think we could potentially get the funding to Make It Happen, but they client needs to know how soon that component would be available once it was fully funded.  Can you give me some feedback on that.  And if its going to be a good six months until CiviAccounts would be available, then what can we do in the meantime to have multiple contributions in one transaction????
