Event confirmation emails send but are empty
November 10, 2011, 10:00:51 am
Hello everyone,

I work for a small non-profit as the IT and Membership guy. We use Drupal and Civi of course. Yesterday our hosting provider had a server failure and we were down for the whole day. In the end, the best solution was to put our last backup on a safe server and point to that. In the process of testing our site this morning I registered for an event and the automatic confirmation email I received was empty. There was the from: and to: field but subject: and message were blank. I made no changes since the backup that was used that would be causing as far as I know. The only thing I did was add some text into a different message template, but I tested that and it worked fine, not to mention that change was reverted anyway.

We're running v3.2.3 right now and I'm unfortunately very new to both Drupal and Civi. Any thoughts/help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

something simlar happened on another site, so this might work

check the permissions on your templates_c directory and ensure that the web server has read/write/execute access to ALL directories under templates_c

So I went to /sites/default/files/civicrm and check the templates_c folder for permissions. Owner has r/w/e, group and public are both r/e only. I also checked the recurse into subdirectories and let it do it's thing. I sent myself another event confirmation like before and it's still empty.

After some more testing, it's not just confirmation emails it's other workflow messages as well, like contribution and membership receipts. I also came across some errors in our phpMyAdmin console about linked tables and mcrypt not working. Could that be affecting it as well? Thanks.
