POPVOX integration
November 17, 2011, 06:29:15 am
I've been emailing a little bit with some of the folks behind POPVOX about deeper integration than their basic widgets allow. Here's a list of the type of functionality I suggested would be useful -- have I missed anything? They seem interested in putting something together specifically for CiviCRM.

  • Users who fill the form out "cold" -- not logged in, etc. -- would have their information submitted into CiviCRM to go through CiviCRM's rules for creating new contacts (e.g. matching email address could update existing contact, no matching email address creates a new contact)
  • Users who are logged in get any relevant information that is held on file auto-populated into the widget
  • Users who respond from a CiviMail mailing get a hashed link that allows them to pull contact info into the form even if they are not logged in to the site
  • When anyone fills out the form it adds something in the activity listing for that contact such as the title of the POPVOX form/widget they used, a link to it, ...?

This seems like a great start. I think having POPVOX integration would be great and be a big step towards the "CiviCRM is missing eAdvocacy" link :)

Would be great if the POPVOX team can engage with the community on IRC and the forums an d get their questions answered :)

Wanna blog about this on the civi forums? so it can reach a larger audience

I've extended your invitation to the POPVOX folks and sent them a link here. If anything more comes of this, yes, it would be good to do a blog about it and I'd be happy to write something up. (Or did you mean putting the request for feedback out on the blog before any deeper integration is built?)

I think blogging about your ideas and where you see the integration points being is probably worth it and will potentially get broader exposure which should help POPVOX with the integration

If willing to do so, please create an account on civicrm.org and i'll grant u blogging privileges

Since moving from Convio, IMBA has been missing an advocacy tool to target members of congress. At the suggestion of the blog, we put PopVox on the list of tools we have been evaluating. PopVox looks great and talking with Josh and Rachna about their product has been fruitful.

IMBA and PopVox are interested in moviong forward with integration. PopVox would like some counsel on the best method for getting constituent data back into CiviCRM. Is the IRC channel the best place for this or could a conversation be arranged with someone from the core dev team?

Jason - we've got some customers interested in Popvox too - I haven't started looking at it yet though

I'm working with Josh on integration, let me know if you want to be involved in that process.

OK - cool - I won't look into it until Feb - all I know so far is they are hoping to replace salsa & that popvox has been proposed as an alternative
