Localization not permitting setting non-US country as default
November 17, 2011, 10:58:49 am
anyone else noticing a bug with Countries on 3.4.7 on Demo and Sandbox - unable to set a country other than the US at Settings - Localisation - ie trying to set Default Country to UK from US will not allow the form to be saved
Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:
Please select a default country that is in the list of available countries.

Basically you need to add default country to available country listing. Check below link:

I have set Germany as default country.

I had the same issue, noticed as a result of the instruction on that screen which reads "Which countries are available in the Country selection field when adding or editing contact addresses. Profile and Custom 'Country' fields also use this setting. To include ALL countries, leave the right-hand box empty."
This clearly implies that the right hand box can be empty, but if you leave the rich hand box empty you get the error. So if you need to have all countries available, you should move all countries into the right hand box and ignore the instructions. I think this is being fixed for 4.1
It is unhelpful to enable the user to choose a default country without also letting them know that this country needs to be in the right hand box for the following field, especially given the above statement indicating that the right hand box on the 'Available Countries' field can be empty. I'd call this a bug.
