Deleting the content of an address field or any field for a group

I did a bulk import of contact data into a fresh database before I realized there was a street address and address1 is not the main address.  Before I figured it out some of the data was altered by hand and I want to retain this newer data. I was able to export the data in address1 and bring it back in as street address but that left the data in address1 which I would like to delete preferably  without visiting all 3500 contact records.  What would be the best plan?

Are the contacts in this case the only contacts in your database? If that is the case, I would go to the database and do an UPDATE?
