Drupal - v- Joomla
November 26, 2011, 06:44:38 am
I've read a lot about the pros and cons of each CMS, but am I locked into whichever one I choose or can I switch if I feel I made a mistake or want functionality which the other offers?  How difficult would it be to switch?

Thanks

because civicrm uses a common database structure with both CMS's, it definitely is possible to transfer civicrm from one system to the other. but you would want to have a good handle on the points of connection between civi and the cms. in particular, civi's connection with the cms user accounts would be difficult to easily migrate from one system to the other.

I had noticed that... :)

Think I'm going to try both on a WAMP install first and see which I get on with.  Having a few problems installing - have had to make a few edits to php.ini, but nothing insurmountable yet.

To clarify, the "easy" part of switching is that your CiviCRM data is fairly portable. But any CMS data, such as users (as mentioned) and data (like pages or blog posts) are more difficult to transfer.

That's great! Wordpress is my favorite CMS and I am looking forward to the support.

just to set the right expectations, our initial wordpress integration will be quite simple and basic :)
