Creating an undated event - or finding an alternative
November 28, 2011, 11:46:50 am
I have a website using CIVICRM where we have a number of regular 3 day workshops that are working fine. We also have a practicum which participants register and pay for. It's different though in that it doesn't have a specific set of dates associated with it, other than a one year deadline from completion of the last regular workshop participants attend. We're trying to decide whether a CIVIMEMBER or CIVIEVENT option is best.

My preference is for the membership option as it lets us set the "membership" term to 1 year, set a reminder date before the end of the year, etc. However, the sticking point here is the wording in the confirmation emails, which treats this as a membership. If we go this route I'd like to substitute the word "practicum" for membership. Is there an easy way to do this? I've only been able to find localization information, which I think is far more than I want to get involved with.

I tried contributions as well, but that seems to create the same problem.

The alternative would be to do an undated event, which I don't think is an option, as setting dates could make participants think they have that date range as a completion timeframe, which isn't the case.

Am I missing something here - is there some other alternative?

Thanks
Chris Hutcheson

From the Administer Configuration page you can edit templates. Find the correct one and edit to change that word. I think that's the smartest thing.

Thanks - that seems to have worked for me for the emails users and administrators get, but I also need to edit the form the site displays when a user registers to eliminate reference to Membership, replacing it with "Practicum" Can you tell me where I could do that?

Thanks very much
Chris

Look at Membership.tpl and the other files in templates/CRM/Member/Form inside of CiviCRM. Be sure to customize templates correctly, i.e. by using a custom directory as per http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Directories

Try word substitution (in admin option list).

It will rename membership by practicum everywhere

Thanks very much, all - the last solution in particular - word replace - did the trick!

Cheers
