SERIOUS PROBLEM with Households and Contacts for Phonathon
November 30, 2011, 04:04:07 pm
A client recently had a phonathon using Civi. Because some contributions were listed under an individual in a household and others were with the household, when they did a report they ended up calling a couple major donors who had already given generously. This proved quite embarrassing and shouldn't happen. Is there a way to work around this? Can one produce a report of households and individual donors so that the households are listed and each individual in the household follows underneath?

This can be a serious liability of the program. If I understood how to develop for Civi better I might help to find a solution, but for now I need to keep this client happy. Any help is more than welcome.

P.S.
After I receive the help, I'd be happy to work with someone to find a way to make it better if that is needed. I could certainly build the queries needed, just plugging them into the Civi Framework is the challenge that I find overwhelming.

a few questions:

1. what report did u use to produce the phone-athon list

2. There are a couple of reports that deal with relationship (Relationship Report and Donation Summary Report (Household) ). Could u use them.

Might be good to get on IRC and see what needs to be done and we could help you write it :)

I believe they used either the SYBUNT or LYBUNT reports. The thing we want to avoid is any scenario where we might call a donor twice. Will the household report contain donations registered for an individual of a household? Also, it doesn't produce a useful phone-a-thon information. I need a list of donors organized like the household summary list, but with phone numbers. Will this require some kind of template editing? If so, where would I start?

It is now clear to me that the SYBUNT and LYBUNT reports do  not include households. This is something that needs to be fixed. A client ran the SYBUNT report and called a major donor because this was the first year that their gift was listed under the household instead of individual. Is this an easy fix or something that would require special coding to accomplish? Can someone point me to where I might find the bit of code responsible for this report and maybe the tools I might use to override the core with an expansion module or something?
