how to enable drupal users to edit their civicrm profile info?
February 04, 2008, 09:09:55 pm
Hi,

This is relating to a civicrm custom install with Kabissa modules created by civicrm.. the site is now launched and being used at http://www.kabissa.org

I know about including a civicrm profile in the new user registration form. This works fine and new users registering through the site are able to add civicrm profile info about themselves as expected. This information is displayed under "Contact Information" in a box as expected on the user's profile page.

But how do I enable the users to then later come in and update their own contact details if they need to? So far I have not seen this feature easily available anywhere - what am I missing?

Thanks!

Tobias

You can create a profile with fields that you want user to edit and then use profile in "Edit" mode.

Check http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Linking+Profiles

Ah - cool.. so this link:

http://www.kabissa.org/civicrm/profile/edit?reset=1&gid=2

on Kabissa would enable logged in users to update their profile. I see that works now and am able to verify it. Now how do I best make this available to users? Has anyone succeeded in adding this to the account editing page, or do I need to just create a link to this on a menu somewhere?

Cheers,

Tobias

whoops - just tried editing my contact information and got this error notification upon submission:

"An account already exists with the same information."

Any thoughts?

And another question: sorry for the rapidfire questions.. but I am anxious to get this solved.

It seems odd to be able to update the email address here, since it is also stored in drupal. If you update the email address using this form (assuming I can figure otu how to do so successfully!) does it also update the emaila ddress for the same user in drupal?

cheers,

tobias

If you update email address in drupal, email address of the corresponding Contact in civicrm is updated.

thanks, kurund!

I assume then that if you update an email address in civicrm, the address in drupal is not updated?

This means I think that I need to disable editing of the email address field in civicrm edit mode.

Cheers,

Tobias

Hi,

THis advice worked and I Was able to create a profile for editing contact details, and then link to it from the menu (via a .htaccess redirect) that I display on the user account page. It works.

However, I'm running into difficulty with "Edit mode" in that anonymous users can access it and use it to create new records in the db. Is there a way to stop this from happening, and to only let authenticated users use the edit mode? It also can be used to create organization records which is not a good thing.

Learning alot about profiles here. :)

Thanks,

Tobias

Tobias:

Check Drupal >> Access Control, for anonymous user don't give access to "profile listings and forms" for CiviCRM.

This would be nice, but the instructions from Lobo for our site specifically say to give anon and authenticated users access to this feature:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Kabissa+Deployment+Guide#KabissaDeploymentGuide-anonymousANDauthenticateduserroles

I think you can create a block which will contain "Profile edit link", and then you can specify, this block will be visible only for authenticated user. Note that i am not a drupal expert  :) so there might be better ways of doing this.

Thanks Kurund - it's just odd that it's even possible at all. It is possible to hack around in civicrm to view forms like this and it's disconcerting. We can hide the link to it but anyone knowing there's a civicrm installation there will be able to go and try out various profiles and edit forms. Weird.

Cheers,

Tobias
