How stable is CiviCRM 4.1 alpha 1 on Wordpress ?
December 04, 2011, 05:13:14 pm
Hey,

I've been waiting for CiviCRM on Wordpress quite impatiently. Now I'm in a situation where I have quite urgently to set up an event registration and CRM linked to a website that runs Wordpress. I just wondered how stable it currently is. Can I risk using it for an event where we expect over 350 people and that takes places towards the end of January?

its an alpha release :)

that said, we think the integration with WP is fairly minimal and a simple layer, so we hope not too have too many issues.

We think the final will be out by mid january, so seems like u'll be fine :) Would be great if you can take the alpha release thru some of its paces :) and find a few bugs

Hello Daniel,

Thanks for that answer. So I understand that the Wordpress integration is not too much of a problem. But how "stable" is the rest of the system? Do you have an idea when the first beta version will be out?

goal is to get beta out by end of month, i.e. a new year present :)

however it will be a lot better if you spend more time on testing the system and reporting issues you detect. The number of bug reports and feedback we receive dictate the release schedule

Hi,

Did start projects on a beta version. The upgrade process work good enough to move you until the stable version, but that's not a path I would suggest unless you need a feature that is only there on the 4.1 version, and are prepared to learn a lot about civicrm code.

If you can't afford to get stuck and loose data, go for the latest 4.0, if it's more exploration until a real start early next year, probably interesting for you (and definitely useful for us) to start using the 4.1 version

Well, the problem is that the main page is set up with Wordpress, so I would kind of be forced to try version 4.1. But given the time constraints and my lack of deeper IT knowledge, I think that we will go for old fashioned excel sheet solution. :-( We just can't afford loosing data on the way.

u can always use 4.0.x on drupal/joomla for reg at the backend and migrate to 4.1 on WP when u r comfortable with the stability
