Mysterious Links in Profile Search Results

Hello,
I have a page that displays Profile search results. The search results contain both CiviCRM core fields and custom fields. The custom fields search results display as links for no reason I can figure out and when clicked simply return all the listings in the profile. The link contains the name of the custom field as well as value for the field as follows (for a field labeled "crops"):

/civicrm/profile?reset=1&force=1&gid=13&custom_14=%01Cherries%01Garlic%01Culinary+Herbs%01Medicinal+Herbs%01Plant+Starts%01Certified+Organic+Seed%01I don't want this. How can I get rid of it? I just want the text of the search results to display.

can u change the 'visibility' settings in the custom field screen to be just 'Public Pages'. I suspect it currently is 'Public Pages and Listings'
