Withholding Credit Card Payment
December 05, 2011, 06:26:36 am
Hi all,

Running CiviCRM 3.4.7 with Drupal 6.19.  We use Paypal Website Payments Pro as our payment processor.  I would like to know if it is at all possible, to withhold payments from being charged for an event registration.

For example, this is how we would ideally like to see an event work:

Step 1) User fills out all relevant Profile and Registration information, including payment information.
Step 2) User submits registration, but the Credit Card IS NOT CHARGED.
Step 3) On the backend, our staff reviews registrations, and upon approval of a registration charges the credit card.

Originally we were using a registration service called RegOnline to do this for us and we found that it wasn't a fiscally sound idea.  We moved over to Drupal & CiviCRM for handling our event registration and this is one issue I've never been able to figure out how to complete.  In the meantime we've had people just register for events, and if there were any problems or rejections, we refunded them through PayPal.  This is fine in certain situations, but for one particular event we have coming up, we absolutely need to be able to review the registrations before approving them and charging the card.

I know that CiviCRM can have users fill out information for approval, and then after being reviewed by staff, receive a link to complete their registration.  This is not ideal, we'd prefer for our registrants to only have to visit our site ONCE, and leave the approval & credit card charging stuff to us.

Is this possible with any feature/plugin of CiviCRM?  If not, I have other methods available to me as backups, but I need to know if CiviCRM can do this.  If not then I will definitely request it.

No, the below flow is not supported.

There is an "event approval" flow within civicrm, where

1. User fills out all relevant Profile and Registration information
2. User submits registration
3. On the backend, our staff reviews registrations, and upon approval of a registration email is sent to user
4. User comes back and adds payment information to make payment
