Multiple Custom Data Records with Renewal Option
December 08, 2011, 06:13:15 am
I was wondering how one might work around the limitation of not being to collect multiple sets of records during renewal of a membership.  We collect demographic information on organizations each year during membership renewals.  If I am understanding correctly, when you create a custom dataset you can only record a single entry for this data.  What if we are trying to carry over from year to year to better understand changes within those organizations, such as number of staff, budget range, etc? If renewals can't handle this, would the only option be to create a new membership record for each year?  Has anyone run into this with their use cases and could describe a possible workaround if need be?

Thank You!

Having support for multiple data records in profiles comes up fairly often and there are lots of use cases for this (collecting educational info for a person etc)

However it is a fair amount of work and would be nice if someone could either contribute code and/or sponsor development of this feature. Its a non-trivial project, i suspect at least 75-100 hours for the first version

Is there a MIH setup for this project?  Seems like the community would have already driven this into development.  I thought I might be one of a few that needed this but if wide spread maybe we can get more MIH help.  We have a little over a year and half to solve this issue but I wanted to get this going before we got to that deadline.  My guess is that 75-100 hours results in funding somewhere around $10K needed?

No. We dont have any seed sponsors lined up as yet. Would NASACT be willing to act as one of the lead sponsors? A few folks have expressed an interest but not enough to actually seed fund it :(

What's the price of the seed funding?  I would like to talk to my boss about this and we would be interested in funding it if we made the switch over. Right now we are evaluating this over other AMS options.

I would say 33-50 hours is what would be a good goal to shoot for with regard to seed funding
