Troubleshooting Contact Import Problem (silent fail/redirect from Step 3 to 1)
December 08, 2011, 10:21:07 am
Hi all,

Running Civi 4.0.7 on D7.  We just migrated this installation from one server to another (same paths, filesystem structure, etc.) and everything *seems* to work except Importing Contacts is failing.

What happens:

* Step 1 of import, add CSV file (tried multiple VERY simple 2-row test files), set to Organization (or Individual, same result), set to Dupe Check to None (or any method, same result).

* Proceed normally to step 2, set up mapping (tried Indiv ID, tried Organization name, very simple mapping tests, same result).

* Upon clicking "Continue" to go to step 3, I am instead put right back at the Step 1 form, as seen at the beginning of the process with the default options and no file selected.  No error messages that I can see in the host's Apache/PHP error log.

The "civicrm_import_job_#guid" table gets created every time I try this.  I've tried dropping all the old ones from past failed imports but same result.

My test imports worked successfully when I ran them on the CiviCRM demo server *and* on the pre-migration dev server -- they just won't work on this particular server so I'm assuming something got borked during the server-to-server migration process.  Can anyone provide troubleshooting/next-step suggestions?

Thanks!
Jim

Hi Lobo,

Thanks - I contacted the sys_admin for a list of modules that are enabled, since I don't have access to the config stuff.  I can see the files are getting put in sites/default/files/civicrm/upload, they are owned by the webserver.  The corresponding civicrm_import_job table is created on the database.

I'll see if mod_security is enabled and get back to you.

Thanks again!

Hi Lobo -- good call!  I asked the sysadmin, he checked with the host, and the server was running an "older version" of mod_security on Apache.  They updated it, restarted Apache, and my import ran just fine.

Hopefully this will be good Google/search fodder for anyone else having the same problem -- thanks again for the tip!
