Heads up on Nexcess/CentOS 5
December 12, 2011, 05:11:15 pm
Hey,

If I'm not mistaken, I believe CiviCRM uses PEAR DB.  I have a couple of sites on Nexcess servers.  Some of their servers have upgraded from CentOS 4 to CentOS 5.  The latter does not appear to support PEAR DB.  I spent quite a while trying to get a db connection until I finally tried PEAR MDB2, which worked.

I haven't had a CiviCRM installation on a CentOS 5 server to my knowledge yet, but I'm expecting it/them to break when this eventually happens.  Has anyone found a workaround?  There were no error messages being generated.  The DB object would be created and would fail silently when I performed a query.  No DB_Error object returned, and nothing in the logs.  Still don't know what happened.

civicrm ships with its own copies of all the PEAR libraries it needs (irrespective of the underlying OS)

not sure what  u mean by centos 5 not support PEAR. Are there any links that reference this incompatibility

thanx

Not that it doesn't support PEAR, just not PEAR DB, at least I haven't been able to get it to work on some of their servers.  MDB2 works just fine.
