CiviCRM as subscription control
December 16, 2011, 11:23:54 pm
Greetings,

I've a Joomla 1.7 membership site with both public and members-only content; anyone can see the current issue of the newsletter or download certain forms but only current members can access past newsletter issues and numerous other resources. Can CiviCRM be used to control the access to the members-only content area? That is, only those listed in CiviCRM as having a Current membership can access the members-only content. Currently, I have to turn access on and off manually, meaning looking up each member status in a separate spread sheet; a bit of a hassle.

Thanks,

CiviCRM should be able to do that, using ACL.

Love it!!

Any idea when the ACL documentation will be updated for Joomla?

Thanks,

Have you checked out these extensions?
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Joomla!+Extensions+for+CiviCRM+%283rd+party%29

I think the CiviAuthenticate module in particular would be useful for your requirements.

I looked into the extensions. Just a FYI: it appears that CiviUser is no longer available.

So I'm still unable to make subscription control happen using CiviCRM (now w/ J2.5). Anybody know how?

I was under the assumption that this component would work with J2.5 - have you tried it:

Greetings,

Thanks for your response. I have tried that one. Unfortunately, it is suffering from an issue of its own as noted in another post (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,24200.0.html). I'm not sure which it is authenticating against: the J! registered user or the CiviCRM membership tables. It certainly doesn't appear to sync them.

Thanks,

can u investigate and potentially help fix and/or resolve that issue?

We definitely need more joomla integrators contributing back and help improve the integration via plugins like this

Greetings,

I'd love to give it a shot however, I'm no coder. I know just enough to be dangerous. Nonetheless, I'll start digging.

I did find out that the plug-in does authenticate against the J! user base. My guess is that the breakdown occurs after the actual authentication. Somehow it is not correctly identifying current members. I'm lost after that.
