Admin access from Browser (Resolved)
December 19, 2011, 06:50:52 am
Hi
We are new to CIVICRM and have installed it on a web server in the Office as a trial. I would like to gvie 2 users CIVI CRM admin access to all the CIVICRM functions. Right now they can only get acces if they login on the web server directly. If they connect from their browser and select the admin login it only gives them the ability of Create New user and events. The cannot create reports or serach for contacts etc. I have tried using MENUS and the Manage Access to grant access to CIVICRM Administration but these did not help. It is not convenient nor secure to have the users log in to the server to get this functionality. I have looked at the documentation but did not find anything to help.

Is it possible to give this access to the users from thier browsers?
Your help is appreciated even if to point me to the appropriate documentation

Thanks in advance.
(I had this post in the "using Civicrm" section but got no responses. So moved here - let me know if this move is inappropriate)

CIVICRM 4.05
JOOMLA 1.7
IIS 7

I do not know what that means.

The only access to CiviCRM is actually via the browser. There is no application for Windows or anything like that--CiviCRM works 100% in your browser. There is an API of course, but for human interaction, all there is is the browser interface.

To clarify: The users can only access the admin function of report creation and searching if they remote connect to the web server and start the browser there and connect to the site using http:\\localhost\myCivicrm
(note the site name myCivicrm is for demo only). They see the full civicrm admin menu items

If they start the browser from their desktop using http:\\servername\myCivicrm (where servername is the web server) they only see menus for adding new items (contacts contributions etc). They do not get the full menu as when they connect via local host.

Hope this clarifies my issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The two addresses http:\\localhost\myCivicrm and http:\\servername\myCivicrm , if they indeed resolve to the same place, are simply different names for the exact same site. The logins are unique so I could be logged in to one URL as UserA and the other as UserB.

Note that in sites/default/civicrm.settings.php there is only one default URL stored, so I would recommend you choose the one you prefer, put it there and then proceed using just that one.

Thank You!
The problem was with the settings file.
Modified to read http://servername and it worked

Much appreciated!
