What are "details" when you create a new case, and why do they dissapear?

I tried this on the demo site as well as my 4.0.8 and the issue is pretty straightforward.  When a new case is created the "Details" box is offered.  Text entered in "Details" is not viewable or editable in any way after the case is created, not even if a case report is printed.

Where does Details text go?  Is it a mistake in the first place that Details is even offered?  Or is it a bug that Details text is not later shown?

Answered my own question.

For others: The details of the case are tied to the first activity Open Case, not the case itself.   Look down in the Activities, click the subject of the Open Case activity and you will see the details there.
