Database sharing
December 21, 2011, 06:27:06 pm
Hello folks,

This may seem like a strange question...

I am currently setting up a test platform with side by side installs of Drupal and Wordpress with their respective CiviCRM versions installed.

Do they have the ability to share the same mysql database?

The reasoning here: I want to be able to work with the same set of data no matter which version of CMS i'm using at any given time.

Is this possible?

I dont think that is possible for one specific aspect. Civi interacts with the CMS via the user table and matches a user to a contact. You'll need to disable this and/or ensure that your WP users do not intersect with your Drupal users. You'll probably need to hack the code to make this happen

But if your user ids do match between Drupal and WordPress, then probably it would work. Anyhow just for testing it seems safe. :)

If you do get this working, it would be great of you to do a writeup for the blog or add some documentation on the wiki. It would be great to have this ability documented.  :)
