Checking Civimail bounce
December 22, 2011, 02:56:31 am
I'm testing the email account for receiving bounce messages

when I run EmailProcessor manually I get
Fatal error: Class 'JError' not found in C:\websites\joomla\administrator\components\com_civicrm\civicrm\CRM\Core\Error.php on line 306

I've found questions about this that say it's to do with Joomla 1.7 not supporting JError (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=21031.0). The manual gives several examples of what error messages could show if CiviCRM can't connect to the mailbox, but I can't find anything that says what the expected result should be if it all works OK. Would a blank screen be that?

Cheers

and a follow up - somethigmn I don't understand in the manual

looking at http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm/system-configuration/

I don't understand this bit in "Sheduling the job"

The cron job needs to run using an account recognized by your Drupal or Joomla! server. Create an account dedicated to this task (e.g., mailprocess), give it a long, secure password (e.g.,seol-lzprm42amv-psyc) and grant it access on CiviCRM and CiviMail. Do not change the account password without changing the password in the configuration files of this cron job.

Where am I setting up this account - in CiviCRM? on the Linux server? and in either case how do I grant it access to CiviCRM and CiviMail

(Hope I'm not being thick - just down to lack of expertiese)

Cheers

About Blank Screen: It appears that the blank screen is an indicator that things are set up fine. I experienced the same. Once I resolved the errors I saw the black screen.

About Scheduling the Job: The user (mailprocess or whatever) needs to be a Drupal or Joomla user.  There are no requirements on it being a CiviCRM contact. The FLOSS manual does not mention that the Role of  Drupal user for sending emails should have "View All Contacts' permission. But it must be so.

So far I am  able to run the cron. The EmaiProcessor does read the bounce inbox (the bounced emails are deleted after it is run). However, I am not able to see them in Bounce Report. I am yet to find an answer on where can I see 'what happend to the bounce email that the script detected?'.

the bounced emails are moved to a subfolder (ignored or processed) called CiviMail in your imap mailbox

If not recorded in your bounce report, i suspect they are filed under ignored

Sorry - stuck again

The CiviCRM manual lists a complete cron configuration to hansle CiviCRMs mail requirements. Is this somethign I type in from the lunux command prompt or create a script file to be run - if the latter, where is it stored?

I can actually set up a cron job from the Plesk control panel - is it easer to do it from here

Cheers
