New activity only allows two options for activity type
December 23, 2011, 05:24:18 pm
This is on drupal 7.1 and civicrm-4.0.8-drupal.

I am still figuring out CiviCRM.  :P

When I go to /civicrm/activity?reset=1&action=add&context=standalone and attempt to add a new activity, I only have two options ie Meeting and phone call for activity type. There are a couple of dozen or so.

How do I allow the other activity types to show when I go to create an activity?

Most of the activity types are "reserved" ie. they have a special way of being triggered (eg. changing a case status...). That's nomal that they are only these two, as they are the only "normal" ones. if you create more, they will be available too.

If you use the normal interface menu, you have more activity options (eg register to an event...)

Are you looking for a specific activity type? What are you trying to do?

Hi xavier, thank you for the reply. I want to log all activity for certain users through adding new activities to choose from. Some of the existing activities that I didn't need I just relabeled and those are the ones I need most. From what you are saying, I should just be able to copy the ones that work and the new ones I make will work too.

I think this must be considered a feature rather than a bug but I can't understand why this productivity roadblock should exist.

Hi,

Avoid renaming activities that are "reserved", but create new activity types instead. Again, some activities have special meanings that are triggered by a specific action (all the ones around case management for instance). Leave these as they are and create new ones and all will be fine.

Hi xavier, I just finished added activity types and the new activity function functions as expected now.  :D Thank you for helping me on this problem. Now I need to figure out why adding activities won't add them to the dashlet.  :-\

EDIT: I figured out why the activity dashlet won't track activity. It's broken! It doesn't even appear in the reports listing for some reason. I just created a new one and all is well with this part of my exercise in configuring something I know nothing about.  :D
