Cant search for contacts on first name

I get this....and i do for a fact know there are two members with the name (which i edited out for this example), i registred them myself, i find them if i search for groups:



status
    No matches found for:

        * Namn lika som - "namn"


    Suggestions:

        * check your spelling
        * try a different spelling or use fewer letters
        * if you are searching within a Group or for Tagged contacts, try 'any group' or 'any tag'
        * add a New Individual, Organization or Household
        * make sure you have enough privileges in the access control system

Put the % wildcard in from of the firstname.   It searches the full name in this format

lastname, firstname

So if you wanted to search for flerk use %flerk.

Hello,

Is it possible to change the setting of CiviCRM so on the search block or the other block to search both on the first and lastname, without having to type the % in front of the first name ?

you will need to go in and change the code (CRM/Contact/BAO/Query.php, search for sortName and fix there)

That used to be our default but we changed it in 1.7 or so. It is incredibly inefficient for large number of contacts (since its a scan of the table)
