Creating a CiviCRM account via adding a new Drupal user
February 07, 2008, 02:35:00 pm
I have created a profile in CiviCRM that is being used when creating new users in Drupal's admin.  So, as the new Drupal user account is created in Drupal (Administer > Users > Add new user), a corresponding CiviCRM account is created and the CiviCRM profile form fields that filled out get ported over automatically.  This is working fine. However, I'm only asking for First Name, Last Name, and current Employer.

What I would like to do is add a field to the profile that asks which CiviCRM group the new Drupal user is going to be part of.

In the CiviCRM profile edit screen, I add "Groups" as a field to the profile just as I did First Name, Last Name and Current Employer.  However, when I go back over to the Drupal Administer page and attempt to add a new Drupal user, the Groups field does not appear.

Does anyone know how this can be done?

Thanks!

I assume u r using drupal 5.x? Seems like this might be a bug with civicrm :(

Can u try replicating this on sandbox (instead of using drupal admin to create  a user, use the "Create new account") link. if you can replicate on sandbox, please file an issue against 2.0

thanx

Hi Lobo,

I'd be glad to try it in a different environment and then forward any results to the CiviCRM team, but I'm not sure what/where sandbox is.  Can you provide a URL for it please?

Thanks,
Mark

Speleo:  Thanks for the link to the sandbox.

Lobo: You are correct; I am using Drupal 5.  So, I've created a new profile in the sandbox (user_reg_add_group) and have added a field in the profile for "groups".  I can't, however, find the "create new account" link that you referred to.  Can you tell me where I can find that in the sandbox UI?

Thanks,
Mark

The link to create a new Drupal user account appears below the login block on the left when you are NOT already logged in.  The URL is:
http://sandbox.civicrm.org/user/register

Your profile does show up there with the "Group(s)" field and checkboxes for the 3 "Public" groups - and submitting the form creates the user + contact and adds me to the selected group(s).

You should verify that the Visibility Setting for the Groups you want to allow folks to join is set to Public User Pages or Public User Pages and Listings. Check this from Manage Groups menu. Groups w/ "User and User Admin" visibility will NOT show up in a profile.

FYI - I will be resetting the Sandbox data this morning - so your test profile will disappear...
