Import Contacts Saying That Contacts Already Exist, But They Don't

I had a contact import job stop before it completed.  I identified the contacts that weren't imported and attempted to re-import them.  CiviCRM tells me that the contacts I'm trying to import already exist.  I searched a handful of the contacts in CiviCRM through the normal search features, and searched the contacts table through phpMyAdmin, but couldn't find any of the contacts. 

Any suggestions on what might be causing this and how I can correct or work around it?

Should have mentioned - I'm on CiviCRM 4.0.6.

Hello dwfriederichs,

Just run the import again (just the ones that aren't there), making sure to set it to allow duplicates. After it's done, Perform a Dedupe.

Not a fix necessarily, but I had the same issue on 4.0.8 once and this got me past it.
