Allow user to specify what a donation goes toward
January 10, 2012, 07:25:32 am
What would be the best way to allow a user to specify what that user's donation is to go toward? We have a few 'foundations' that we have set up and we also have our unrestricted fund and some users prefer to tell us which of those their donation is meant for.

Would simply creating a profile and adding a list of radio buttons be the best way of doing this? I don't want to try and reinvent the wheel if there is a Civi approved way of handling this.

Thanks.

That's one very good way. :)

Yes - include a profile in contribution page. If you've setup contribution types which map to your "funds" (and have user-understandable names) - then I think you can simply include the Contribution Type field in the profile - with some "help" included in the field. Caveat - haven't tried this - but I think it will work. Advantage is that the contributions will be "typed" and show up nicely in reports / export etc.

Alternatively, you can create a custom field extending contribution w/ the funds listed, and include that as a profile field.
