Have shortcodes now been implemented for wordpress, in the Beta2 release?  If yes, is there a list of the shortcodes somewhere?

Yes, we have implemented shortcodes for contribution and event registration/info page.  So when you add post / page you will get small civicrm icon next to media icon for inserting short code in post or page.

Documentation coming soon.

I've tried these out, and they work moderately well - however:
a. error screens do not keep to the page template of the shortcode page
b. when trying a front page and logged in as admin (or other user with civi rights) the civi navigation bar displays badly, down the left side of the page

Any chance you can investigate and post patches. I think we checked the error case from the frontend and it seemed to retain the shortcode template

I can give it a shot - could you give details of where to find the shortcode code? (or appropriate tracker references)

from the svn repository, check:

WordPress/civicrm.php, function civicrm_shortcode_handler

which corresponds to the file: wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm.php

in your wp install
