Set up is that client offers a paid membership and and option free one.
When filling in front end form and using pay later the outcome is
- free membership is created and running
- paid membership is 'pending pay later'

so far so good

then we update the Pending membership to show as Completed, and the free membership ends up being extended by a year and showing the Contribution.

Is this a rare and as yet unidentified beast lurking in the undergrowth?
