Accounting Codes
January 12, 2012, 03:26:06 pm
While I am waiting for Civi Accounts.  I need to be able to store accounting codes information with every contribution. I have over 35 different accounts that that contributions could go towards to effectively export into quickbooks.  Is my only option as of right now to create a different contribution type for each account then add accounting codes to the contribution types?   I tried just using something like the transaction ID but it is a unique field.  So that specific field won't work but is there something else like that that would be usable to store "INCOME:Subaccount"  with each transaction?

That is certainly one option, but not the only one.

If you didn't want to do that, you could create a custom field which extends contributions and add the accounting codes there.  I'd suggest you use Alphanumeric > Select or Alphanumeric > Radio as the 'Data and Input Field Type' so you can only select one.

See http://book.civicrm.org/user/organising-your-data/custom-fields for background.  You can experiment here: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/custom/group?reset=1
