Migrating multiple tags on single import for Contacts?
January 16, 2012, 08:43:10 am
we're migrating some contacts fo another system. It has a related table called "Donor Type", that has about 10 values. I'd like to import as mayn of the tags that is realted to each contact on each import for Individual, Organization of Household.

Would putting thes values into a single field as a comma separated list work?

I did read this reagarding doing it with the a custom field as a multi select group:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/1.+Upload+Data

otherwise, it looks like I have to do multiple imports for each Contact Type with a single "Donor Type", which I'd really like to avoid.

If in fact, i have to do this, I would want it to "ADD" the "Donor Type" in addition to the other, not "Update" or "Replace" what was imported previously. What seetin on Import would achieve this/

Thanks,
Doug

Try some examples but i think your likely to have to do something like this.

- import contacts and Tag them with anything eg XX
- export contacts with their Tags
- merge that data in a spreadsheet with your other tags - (use Concatenate)
- reimport the contacts.

Hope that helps unless someone offers a different recipe.
