Hi, I set up some Civi mailings recently to exclude recent donors by creating a smart group of anyone who gave after x date, then selecting this group in the "Exclude" select box under Mailing Recipients. But after the mailing, I discovered that in fact those recent donors did receive the email. They correctly appear in the list of contacts in the Recent Donors smart group, and the mailing report says it excluded this group.

I had first run a test of this functionality by setting up a mailing group of five contacts & making contributions from two of these contacts. I ran the mailing, excluding the smart group of recent donors, and the two donors did not receive the mailing, and they did not show up in the Intended Recipients list -- as expected.

Has anyone run into this before? Did I do something wrong or is the Exclude functionality not consistent?

can u try and reproduce this on demo where it does not do the proper exclusion. i.e. give an example of flaky and not dependable

better yet, there is a pretty good set of unit tests for this custom search. so would be great if you can create a unit test data sample where it does not work today
