Online registration page showing profiles too many times

I have an event setup for online registration which happens to use 6 profiles.  The event also uses a priceset.

On the online registration page, 1 of the profiles is displayed 5 times, another is displayed 3 times, and another is displayed 2 times.

I have checked the event configuration, and profile configuration and nothing seems amiss.   Any ideas on what I should research next?

CiviCRM is at version 3.4.7

I would check the civicrm_uf_join table for that specific event and see what it says. i suspect something is messed up there

When I queried that table, I saw 6 records for that event, matching the 6 configured profiles.   

I compared this against a sandbox environment where I also have 6 profiles in one event( which is working) and compared this to the records for the broken event. Nothing in this table seemed different.

I believe I found the cause of the issue.  The issue occurs when multiple profiles on the same event each include the same field.   Such as 2 profiles that both include the field "First Name"

I will try to reproduce this in the civicrm sandbox.
