A single sign-up form that creates a joomla account and a civi contact?
January 22, 2012, 09:28:38 pm
Hi there,

I'm a newbie to CiviCRM and trying to set up a website for a new non-profit with Joomla. I've seen variants of this question asked but I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere. I feel like I'm probably just missing something obvious.

We would like to have one form for new users to fill out on our site. We'd like submitting that form to create both a CiviCRM contact (so that we can track their address and other details in our database etc), and a Joomla user account (so that users can be logged in and we can implement access control to see various pages, do commenting, etc.).

But I've looked around quite a bit, and so far I can only see methods which either use a two-step process, creating the contact and the joomla account separately (Which seems needlessly complicated and confusing for the user)... or some kind of sync-ing scheme where a joomla account is created and then synced to a civicrm contact (which, it seems, either requires continual manual effort or won't create a civicrm contact that has all the details we want to track).

This seems like a very natural thing to want to do and I feel like there should be a simple solution. Is there an easy way to do this?

Regards,

Dan

You can achieve this using CiviCRM profiles. So instead of using joomla's user registration page, you can use profile in CiviCRM to register user in joomla and also to create contact in CiviCRM. I would recommend reading http://book.civicrm.org/user/organising-your-data/profiles ( especially "New account creation during profile sign-up" )

Oh yeah, looks like I was missing something obvious. I had not noticed that "user account registration option" for a profile. Thanks!
