Define standart relationship for contact reference fields
January 23, 2012, 05:15:56 am
It would be great if I could create a relationship and a contact refernce field (no problem with 3.4.5) and then somehow link them (the problem).

Example:
Relationship: Person (Member of Stuff) is Keycontact for Organisation
Contact Reference Field: Key account manager

Now the user creates a new Organisation (Contact/New Organisation) and fills in the contact reference field - after clicking on save the relationship is automatically added to the relationships

This would be an awesome feature pushing the R in CRM a big step forward

thx werner

Hi Werner,

I think this is a really useful idea, and thanks for sharing! Any chance on you working on it and contributing the solution?

I think this might be better suited to be done as a hook and as a separate module

I think most of the relevant hooks to do so are already exposed, so its just a matter of implementing them.

There will be a few admin screen to decide for what contact reference field what relationship you want to establish and in what direction

I will check the documentation about hooks and seperate modules but I'm not such a good programmer ...

... but maybe I could convince my boss to sponsor some money for a Make it happen. Would that be possible?

I think you can always suggest a Make It Happen, if that route does not work you can hire a CiviCRM developer to create a custom solution using the hooks (being a structured way of customizing/extending CiviCRM).
