On my event I selected Allow Multiple Registrations and Allow Using the Same address. 

Registrant #1 fills out the standard Name & Address profile, as well as a Participant Profile.

For the additional registrants, I created an individual profile with only name and address. This is per the instructions in the Help.

I am unable to use the participant profile for the additional registrants. I get an error that it must be an "individual"profile. 

If I am using at least one Individual profile for the registrants, shouldn't the other profiles in use be allowed to be whatever type I want them to be?

It should be noted that in the production site using Civi 3.3 I was able to use the participant profile for additional registrants.

I really need to allow the primary registrant the ability to use the same email AND record the participant demographic information.

Could any of this be resolved by using the Household profiles instead??
