Default text in a profile
February 11, 2008, 05:03:35 pm
Hello.  I would like to be able to add a civicrm profile to my site where it is used as a "take action" form.  People would fill it out, insert comments, and it would get sent to a legislator and/or government agency.  But I would like to be able to add sample comments in one of the fields so people can either send it with those comments or edit them to their liking.

is this possible?  I want to use a profile as opposed to a drupal survey so those people get added to a group called "took action" or something.  Should i go in a different direction?

thanks

tonyg:

When you create a Custom field, you can set default value for that field. So when you include this in profile it will be shown.

Thanks Kurund. That would help. The only negative with this is that custom text fields are very small.  I was thinking of a larger text area because the comments I would include by default are somewhat long (maybe 150-200 words).  From the user perspective it would be hard to read and use, i think.

So I think I'll have to stick with Drupal's surveys for now until CiviCRM allows for custom fields that are text areas or boxes.

but thanks anyway.

You can use Custom Field of type Note. For this you can even specify row and columns.
