Upgrading 3.2.4 > 3.4.8 in Drupal 6.19, "DB Error: already exists."

I could have sworn I saw something about this error message and a trivial solution to it in the Upgrade Drupal Sites to 3.4 wiki, but searching for any of these terms on that page now turns up nothing. I've inherited a site that is hosted on HostGator (business level), overwhelmed with spam, and desperately in need of security updates in core and more than several modules.

A little more background: In an earlier upgrade attempt, I failed but was able to recover. I had tried to do too many things at once — updating CiviCRM and nuking spam — and wound up with the databases out of synch. I was able to restore the database and CiviCRM 3.2.4 installation (I used the upgrade URL again and got a nice green screen). So we're OK so far.

I don't know if this matters, but at that point I removed the 3.2.4 folder (/sites/all/modules/civicrm) and replaced it with 3.4.8. Only then did I remember that the backup database had the site online, not offline for maintenance as I had intended. I switched the site offline and reloaded the upgrade URL. Nice green screens. Backed up the database again just before hitting the "Yes, I really mean it — Upgrade now!" button.

Hit "Update" and got a page reading:

Quote
Upgrade CiviCRM to version 3.4.8
Operating in off-line mode.
Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
DB Error: already exists
Error Details

"Error Details" appears to be a link on hover, but clicking it gives no more information.

Help?
