Membership Price Sets - Text/Quantity field broken
January 30, 2012, 01:32:51 pm
I'm not sure how to set up a membership price set - apparently it's not as intuitive as it seems to be.  It seems I was setting this up correctly, as it functions correctly in 3.4.7.

We offer multiple levels of membership.  In addition, members can pay extra to be listed more than once in a categorical directory.

What I did -
Created a membership price set with two price fields; (1) Membership Levels, with radio buttons for selecting the membership level, and (2) Additional categories, a text/numeric quantity field for the additional number category listings desired.

I believe this is similar to the setup described in the wiki, which shows two types of memberships and a t-shirt as a premium option. But, when I try to purchase a membership and an additional category, I get the following message:

Quote
You have selected multiple memberships for the same organization or entity. Please review your selections and choose only one membership per entity.

If I select only the radio button for the membership, everything is fine.  If I enter a number in the "add-on" field but leave the radio buttons blank, I get this message:

Quote
Please select at least one membership option.

So it seems that the text/numeric quantity field is both a membership and not a membership ?  I'm confused!

I'm able to replicate the behavior on the Drupal 7 demo.  On the Drupal 6 demo, I get a stack overflow error when trying to create a price set.

For you options in Administer CiviCRM » Price Sets » Price Options » Price Fields do you have "Membership Type" blank?

"If a membership type is selected, a membership will be created or renewed when users select this option. Leave this blank if you are using this for non-membership options (e.g. magazine subscription)"

Where I have the radio buttons set up, the three available options are membership types.  The text/numeric quantity field doesn't show the option for selecting a membership type (which is fine, I don't want this to be for a membership).

If you have the time to look at how I have it set up, I created the same price set I'm using on the drupal 7 demo: http://d7.demo.civicrm.org.

I believe this is a bug that's been introduced in 3.4.8.

I set up a local install of 3.4.7 and it works as expected. Using the exact same process as stated above, I am able to add a text/number box to the membership price set and the cost is added in to the total without any error messages.

Sandy - thx for surfacing this. I was also able to recreate on the 4.1 beta Drupal 7 sandbox. I've escalated the issue to "blocker" => http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-9577 since 4.1 is nearing stable release.
