Google Apps

Wondering how to get CiviCRM working with a Google Apps SMTP account (smtp.gmail.com).

This person is wondering that too: http://groups.google.com/group/hosted-setup/browse_thread/thread/7e34a3c73d480ec4/c3beef0fbd3316ff?lnk=gst&q=smtp+civicrm#c3beef0fbd3316ff

I have posted more detail about it here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,2265.0.html

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

can you try with the following settings:

SMTP server address : ssl://smtp.gmail.com
SMTP server port: 465
SMTP username: [username@gmail.com/username@yourtlddomain.com]
SMTP password: [yourpassword]

please report back if the above works

thanx

I've had a dumb experience once with using gmail for sending mail and have since stopped using it for mailings - it changed the "from" address of the emails I sent to my gmail username.

This weekend I also set up the "alternate" configuration for civimail mail settings, using an IMAP mailbox for handling reply emails. I was never able to get the gmail IMAP server to work.. it apparently was slow and the script timed out.

It seems to me that gmail is different enough that it might not be a good idea to use it for civicrm.

Cheers,

Tobias

Just FYI, I am using a Joomla 2.0 install, and this doesn't work.

Your settings above worked like a charm.  Using google apps setup.  Thanks!   ;D
BTW I am using Drupal 6.x with Civicrm 2.1 running on my localhost (WAMPserver).

This probably is not the best place to ask this...

We have CiviCRM 1.9.12432 on Drupal, and are thinking about using Google Apps. We have a modest mailing list with less than 3,000 email addresses. I read that gmail accounts with google apps education edition have a sending limit of 500 per account per day. Does this affect my 3,000 email address list? We send out monthly mailings.

about the sending limit:

Thanks, sorry if this a bad place to post this.

For what I know any free gmail.com account has limit of 500 email per day, theonly solution is to send them super  slowly trough smtp at fo example 480 emails per day rate = 20 email pe hour.

Thanks lobo,

ssl://smtp.gmail.com worked for me too 4.0.7 and drupal 7.

Until i prefixed the SMTP server with ssl:// any attempts to send/test email would just hang.
