Newbee question regarding bounced mail
February 02, 2012, 11:47:30 pm
I'm trying to get a grip on my bounced mail.

Yes, I know Civimail can handle my bounced mail, but I like to build functionality step by step. I can understand better what's going on.

When I send mail to an fault address I get an error back. My thoughts were that if Civimail send a mailing with the same fault address in it, an error message should arrive in the Reply-to-mailbox. But that doesn't happen.

Can someone explain why replies don't arrive?

Responding: Track replies: No

civimail (or any broadcast mailer) traps the bounce messages and marks them in the database. They don not forward this message on

even when I ask CiviMail not to track the replies??    Responding: Track replies: No

What is the function of that switch if it isn't going to switch of the tracking?

but somehow it doesn't seem to work. do you know where in the database I can see the mail is bounced?

The book might explain the various aspects and flags in civimail. check:

http://book.civicrm.org/user/email/what-is-civimail

the civimail tables are civicrm_mailing_*

Thx,
I finaly got it. I mixed up the Reply-to en the Return mailbox. I thought they were the same. The return mailbox is invisible, I didn't know that.
The book you recommended was very useful.
