CiviMail bouncing addresses from host domain
February 09, 2012, 09:35:21 am
As I'm tweaking my CiviMail setup, I created a specific email account on the server to handle bounce processing (returnedmail@domainname.net)

I created a test message, the recipients are all employees with email addresses on the same server as the CRM (domainname.net)

I triggered the sending of the message (since the cron job is not working), and the message immediately bounced back to all recipients AND put their addresses on hold.

This is telling me that bounce processing is working (yippee!) but has uncovered a different problem, and a rather critical one. I don't want to send any other messages out via CiviMail, because if all mail is bouncing, that's 1000s of email addresses I'll need to take off hold.

Has anyone seen this and if so, what was the resolution?

UPDATE: I switched from SMTP to Mail() and now the bouncing does not occur.

I’m having this problem too (bounced emails only on addresses to the host domain). But I was originally using mail(). I tried SMTP but that didn’t work for me, so I’m back at mail(). I suspect there is something else involved, but haven’t figured it out yet.  Perhaps I should note the emails never seem to leave the system, i.e. I am the addressee of all those bounced emails and I never see them in my client.
