I am setting up a new installation of CiviCRM, and after importing a large number of contacts & contributions, and setting up membership types, I am wondering... is there anyway to automatically create membership records and calculate membership types based on the contributions data and the "Minimum fee" value assigned to the different membership types?

I dont think there is code which does exactly what you want. However it should be quite easy to reuse most of civicrm functions and put them in a loop to do the below. I suspect this is very org specific and the rules are potentially quite different for different orgs and hence might be hard to generalize.

If you need help figuring out how to potentially do this, contact us on IRC. You'll need to be pretty good at PHP and OOP
