CiviCRM not handling URL "alias" (CNAME) correctly
February 11, 2012, 08:22:16 am
For a variety of reasons, I initially installed CiviCRM on a site with a terrible URL.  I have since registered a more user-friendly domain and set up a CNAME record in the DNS so that there is a pleasant URL in the new domain that goes to the old terrible URL.  This mostly works except that when I am accessing CiviCRM with the new URL and select "Manage Groups", the list comes up correctly and the URL is the new URL, but the links for "Contacts" and "Settings" still use the old URL, and that means that when I click on those links I get "Access denied" errors, probably because the authentication is stored in a cookie attached to the new URL.  The same thing happens with "Find Contacts".

I went into "Settings - Update Directory Path and URL" and set the "New Base URL" to the new URL, but that didn't change anything.  Are there more places (maybe in the database) that I need to adjust?

Thanks,
Chris
