WSOD on upgrade from 3.3-3a to 3.4.8
February 12, 2012, 05:21:53 am
Was having issues with the 3.3 alpha release and am trying to upgrade 3.4.8 on Joomla 1.5.25. After the component installs and goes to database check function I get a white screen. I have found the following in the logfile:
[Sun Feb 12 08:08:58 2012] [error] [client 173.160.51.65] PHP Warning:  require_once(PEAR.php) [<a href='function.require-once'>function.require-once</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/administrator/components/com_civicrm/admin.civicrm.php on line 38
[Sun Feb 12 08:08:58 2012] [error] [client 173.160.51.65] PHP Fatal error:  require_once() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required 'PEAR.php' (include_path='.:/var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/joomla/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm:/var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/joomla/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages:.:.:.') in /var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/administrator/components/com_civicrm/admin.civicrm.php on line 38
It appears as if CiviCRM doesn't 'believe' that I have PEAR installed, but I do and it is working fine on a Magento install on the same server. Any ideas? Joomla 1.5.25, PHP 5.3.10-5, MySQL 5.5.20.

can u check your local file system and see if:

/var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/joomla/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/PEAR.php

exists and is readable by the web server?

I disabled Xcache, restarted Apache and no joy. Same error messages:

not sure what/why this is happening on your site. the file is there and the include path seems right :(

I have uninstalled CiviCRM, deleted all CiviCRM directories in both the 'administrator' and 'components' directories. I have deleted all CiviCRM tables and reinstalled CiviCRM. I am still getting the WSOD when going to 'Components>CiviCRM' in the admin site. I do have new error messages however in the logfiles:

[Sun Feb 19 17:38:59 2012] [error] [client 173.160.51.65] PHP Warning:  file_exists() [<a href='function.file-exists'>function.file-exists</a>]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/www/vhosts/nationalwildernessstewardshipalliance.org/httpdocs/joomla/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/IDS/default_filter.xml) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs:/tmp) in /var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/IDS/Filter/Storage.php on line 204, referer: http://www.wildernessalliance.org/administrator/index.php
[Sun Feb 19 17:38:59 2012] [error] [client 173.160.51.65] PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'XML data could not be loaded. There is clearly a problem with the CiviCRM code somewhere as it doesn't reference the file as being in the correct subdirectory as the Joomla install. The joomla install is at '/var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/joomla/' not '/var/www/vhosts/wildernessalliance.org/httpdocs/'

There is no $live_site parameter set in the Joomla configuration.php ( and it should not be required) and both the log path and tmp path are in the 'joomla' subdirectory.

can u delete the below directory and all its sub-directories

/var/www/vhosts/nationalwildernessstewardshipalliance.org/httpdocs/joomla/media/civicrm/

and see if that fixes the issue
