Advise on recording data like contracts
February 13, 2012, 11:47:03 am
Am really loving CiviCRM 4.x
I see some really good stuff but that s for another post.

I am trying to conceptual a business process in Civi and looking for recommendations/ paths already trodden.

The scenario is that the admin wants to known when a contract arrangement expires between two organisation types.
I am trying to stick core functionality as much as possible and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on the best way of recording this date based type of relationship. In particular admin is interested in knowing which contracts are about to expire.

So on a reporting level the question might be show me organisations/contacts for organisations whose contracts are expiring.

I could see activities, custom fields being good for this. But CiviCase?
What makes most sense in terms of easy reporting

All suggestions welcome :)

Relationships can record the start/end dates - does that not cover your use case?

It may do.
I cant see a way of viewing all relationships [4.0.8] or how a date is specified or how a report along the lines of "show me contracts about to expire" might function....

Am i missing the obvious?  :) [won't be 1st or last time]

In Adv Search you can specify end/start dates. I don't use Relationship reports so can't offer any advice there but there is one. Other option is to push that data out via Views if you are on Drupal. HTH
