CiviSync install issue
February 14, 2012, 07:48:57 am
I am posting this here as I cannot find a more suitable specific forum to post this query.

I am trying to install CiviSync, which I downloaded from here.... http://sourceforge.net/projects/civisync/ ...and which I assume is the currently available version (ie 1.0 beta).

I was able to install the server parts but when trying to run the Setup program on the Windows client (running Windows 7 64-bit) I got a prompt "Windows can't open this file: CiviSyncOutlookAddIn.vsto".  (The file CiviSyncOutlookAddin.vsto in fact just contains some XML.)
I searched around for clues as to what to do next and it seems that the program that would be appropriate for such a file would be VSTOInstaller.exe which is supplied with MS Visual Studio, which I don't have.  I also quickly searched the MSDN web site in case it is available separately as a downloable utility for purposes such as this, but with no luck.  :(

If I understand this correctly then I guess that either
  • the installation instructions for CiviSync should say that Visual Studio is a prerequisite for installing CiviSync, or
  • an equivalent to VSTOInstaller.exe should be included as part of the CiviSync installer (as actually including that file, along with any necessary DLLs etc I guess that would contravene the Visual Studio license agreement).

I am a bit stuck, so can anyone suggest a way forward, please?   ???

Thanks
Mark   :)

Might be worth getting in touch with Rohit from http://www.targetintegration.com/ and seeing what the latest is on this module (and posting back anything you find out here!)

Hi Mark,

The version that you have is not compatible with Windows 7 64 Bit. We are working on an updated package which will work with Windows XP/Vista/7 32 and 64bit and Outlook 2007/2010. It has been a little difficult and limited with the resources that we have at the moment to complete and release the package. We are working towards a release date of asap and will try and keep the community informed.

CiviSync CMS (available from our site) is a Joomla Component/Drupal Module which is required by the upcoming version of CiviSync Outlook.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Rohit

Thanks Rohit

That clarifies things a lot.
I'm willing to beta test your code in the Windows 7(64bit) and Outlook 2007 environment, so let me know when it's ready.

Mark
