Confirmation email not being sent [SOLVED]

System configuration:

Drupal 7.12
Civi 4.1
Open Public beta5
Webform CiviCRM Integration

CiviMail is enabled and site is sending out the notification email, but the confirmation email isn't being sent. I've implemented the patch from http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-8608 but it's still no-go.

I'm using a standalone form that collects only email address and zip code - I'm not using Webform. The "Your submission request has been submitted..." message appears, but no email is being sent to the subscriber.

I'm stumped here - any ideas? Thanks in advance...

UPDATE: Using Webform, emails are, indeed, being sent out and the confirmation process works.

(Although there are two messages upon confirmation - the first one is "Thank you. Your information has been saved. Thank you. Your information has been saved. Thank you. Your information has been saved." - which is rather redundant.)

There must be something I'm missing in the standalone form - I stripped out a lot of javascript that I thought wasn't necessary. I'll take a look at the Civi Webform Integration module to see if I can find a hint there.

UPDATE: I'm an idiot - the Webform nodeblock works great - no need for the standalone form.

But I've tracked it down to one webform (with more information) working properly with subscription confirmation, but another (with only email and zip) not sending the confirmation out.

LAST UPDATE: This looks like it was an issue in the development sandbox - the site is now deployed to IP and confirmation messages are being sent out. I'll leave this here in case somebody else runs into a similar issue.
