Any way to install without ftp?
February 16, 2012, 05:20:23 pm
As the subject title asks. Is there anyway to just install this without dead links bad checksums and the plethora of other issues encountered trying to use the installer?

 Thanks IA

After trying to post this multiple times I sure hope visitors to our site won't have to deal with this. You certainly need a few more captchas.

Short answer is yes. Long answer is that "how" depends on what CMS you are using. Drupal maybe able to fetch the module itself as per Tell Drupal where to find the CiviCRM 4.0 Module

I don't think Joomla or WordPress can fetch the code for you, but you can use any method you like such as ssh (wget) or you could use a very small PHP script to fetch the CiviCRM code.

But FTP should be a very simple way. Can you elaborate as to what problems you are encountering?

This forum is powered by "SimpleMachines" and that package has no connection to CiviCRM actually.

 Hi Hershel

Thanks for the reply. The install was into Drupal 7.12 and I had tried both the gz and zip and kept getting a flash of the page and nothing else would happen. 4.0 as well as 4.1. Couldn't tell if the "must have ftp enabled" was an error or just a note. But it never got to the ftp server info page.  So of course I kept checking that and changing settings even though all the other pieces installed without a hitch . Apparently it is just a note.

Downloaded to server and tried to install locally and nothing. The gz gave chechsum errors when I tried to unpack it. Finally got it unpacked and put it in the .../sites/all/modules and tried to load it (****://192.168.0.2/~mylocalhost/d_r_forum/sites/all/civicrm/(every conceivable file, folder, index what-have-you)) with safari, firefox and opera to no avail. Tried dragging files and folders to the addy bar. Nothing. Finally loaded the site into dream weaver and dragged the install.php into adobes help browser and voila. I'm seeing red. Something about a problem with the sql databases. Easy fix as I was using a seperate db for cvcrm and just had to point in that direction. Copied and pasted the url into opera and followed the instruction.

The url ended up be truncated to ~mylocalhost/all/civiccrm/install.php.

So anyway I did get it to work. Please pardon me for being terse. However, considering the scope of this project and how it is all about organization I am still a bit mystified about how difficult it is to find the add-on downloads and many of the links on this website just keep sending you in circles. Then the four capthas to join and three to post a question or comment and whenever you request another image you get an error message and the page reloads to the top.... ~sniff~ http://forum.civicrm.org/Smileys/classic/cry.gif. Its just frustrating when you waste so much time on something that should really be simple and straight forward after you've spent so much time just looking for the appropriate files. In the meantime I was also setting up some dbs on my remote servers and my user error may render my site fubr in the end anyway.

The instructions and documentation are for the most part clear and concise, but then there is civicEvent. I assumed copying the fullcallender.js & .css meant to put a copy in the civicEvent js and css folders reflectively but... and I am certain I read somewhere about having to put a start date in something somewhere and I'll be... if I can find that again and get a date error on the event page. Notice: Undefined property: CRM_Core_DAO::$start_date in events_calendar() (line 146 of /Users/myserver/Sites/d_r_forum/sites/all/modules/civicrm_events/civicrm_events.module).

I still have not been able to find the civicontribute install anywhere. I only found some sort of patch on the drupal site. Any idea where I might find that?

 Thanks again.

Hi. If your CiviCRM code archive is corrupted, you should get a fresh one from SourceForge. The install procedure should indeed be straightforward and simple.

Issues with CiviCRM Events Calendar I think you would want to post on the issue queue here: http://drupal.org/project/civicrm_events

CiviContribute is not an install--it's part of CiviCRM. If it's not enabled then go to civicrm/admin/setting/component and make sure it's enabled.
