Assigning membership rules to different membership types
February 13, 2008, 07:47:19 pm
HI - I have gone around in circles looking for others who find the fact that Membership Status/Rules are set generically for all Membership Types.

We have members - rolling, join for a year, get a grace period of a year, expire.

We have supporters - rolling, pay monthly.

But the rules mean that the supporters get a grace period of a year - which they shouldn't have.

Why can't Status Rules be applied to specified Membership Types instead of all Types. Is this not an issue for others with even more complex membership set ups.

Also - how come when the Supporters have been set to Rolling does it still show their being a 'Fixed Start' of Jan 01?

NB I cannot replicate this in your Sandbox 2.0

We'd be interested in hearing from other folks as to whether they need member-type-specific status rules... (this would obviously add a chunk of complexity to the code). Peter - if this is critical for you, and you're interested in putting in resources to make this happen - would be good to get on IRC with Lobo and chat about it. I can imagine a solution where an optional foreign key to membership_type_id is added to the membership_status table etc...

I'm thinking this is a bug that was fixed. Would be great if you could verify that it's working properly in 2.0 beta.

I guess the thing for us is that it isn't critical - ie we will set our system up to ignore the 'grace' period - it just seems to be an obvious 'flaw' (sorry don't mean to sound cruel) and am surprised that others with more complex systems haven't run in to problems. So our stretched resources will be going in to other more critical areas.

Can't replicate the problem in 2.0Demo - will let you know what happens when we complete our install. Then again I have no idea what order of events resulted in it 'sticking' in our system. Did we set it up as fixed then changed to rolling, or what. Have tried several ways on 2.0 but can't get a 'fixed date' to show on a 'rolling' Type.
