Need help fixing a 4.1.0 upgrade on Joomla 2.5.1 install
February 19, 2012, 06:13:18 pm
I've attempted to do an upgrade on a Joomla 2.5 site to the latest version of CiviCRM for a client. Unfortunately, I'm now having problems:

  • The dashboard keeps saying "loading" and never ends.
  • When I try to complete a contribution (membership), it simply kicks me out to the homepage
  • whenever I try to go through the admin configuration checklist, I get the "you don't have permissions" screen

I'm fairly new to CiviCRM, so I'm not sure what's going on, but I really need help.

Email me at paul@siteoneinternet.com if you can help me figure how to get this working.

Sounds like the CIVICRM_UF_BASEURL and / or Resource URL setting(s) might be incorrect. Check this doc for details:

Also check that you're not using or referencing different URLs (e.g. http://www.mysite.org AND http://mysite.org). This will typically cause some of the issues you're seeing. And try rebuilding the menus (http://<joomla_site>/administrator/index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/menu/rebuild&reset=1).

No joy with ANY of the suggestions so far. I've contacted almost all of the paid professionals for help; they all either are too busy (which is a good thing for them), or they want a ton of money to see if they can fix my issues. The one group who did help got stumped.

I'm desperate, folks! I really need some help. I can't pay thousands of dollars for this, since I'm eating the cost personally and since it's a very low-revenue site to begin with. But anyone who can get this straightened out will earn my undying gratitude...

Have you upgraded to 4.1.1?

To debug, I would suggest that you make a copy of your DB and reinstall a fresh copy of CiviCRM 4.1.1 and see if your bugs persist. If not, then the issue is in your DB.

Also perhaps try a different Joomla template, just to see...
