I've looked at CRM_Report_Form_Contribute_Detail and it is not at all obvious how one could extend this to show individual as well as organizational donors. Has anyone ever done something like this?

Hello Fen,

In CiviCRM, go to Reports---->Create reports from templates. As you scroll down, under the "Contribution Report Templates" Heading, there are ready made templates for both Individual and Organizational donors. There are also Donor reports for households and several other instances. I have used the organizational report, and the individual report, and both work very well. They even give you the option to export the information to a CSV file, and add the included contacts to a group.

I really can't remember what exactly my issue was, but I think it may have been a desire to be able to get LYBUNT/SYBUNT reports for organizations only. Whatever it was is no longer an issue. (It may have been an issue only with CiviCRM v3.2 which we have since upgraded to v4.1...)
